Mothers are multi talented and we need their wisdom and warmth in business.
We would love your support to help us reframe the way maternity leave is perceived and revolutionise the way mothers and businesses grow.
We hear stories daily from women who want to work and rise to more senior levels. They have the talent and the drive but the current corporate culture doesn’t support them as effectively as it could.
Here are 3 reasons we hope will help you:-
- In the words of our first sign-up, “it’s a no-brainer”
As a working mother who left the corporate world after baby number one and now runs a successful from-home business alongside raising baby number, our movement immediately appealed and resonated. Whether you are 10 years or 2 years away from having a baby the reality is, if you want to have a corporate career and a family, your current choice of companies who will truly support you, is limited. We want to ensure you are not just covered financially, but emotionally too. We want to increase your choices and make it easier to see which companies are the ones you should make a bee line for when you are starting out. If you are one of many women who stepped out to raise your family and not return, pay it forward.
- Can you afford not to pledge?
If we succeed in our mission what will this change mean to you, your family, your friends and your children, particularly your daughters? If we don’t, will it matter? We were inspired to start our campaign after reading the Equalities Commission report which estimates that up to 100,000 women are discriminated against every year during a time when they should be feeling nurtured, cherished and respected. If we want our next generations to feel loved, we need to start with current mothers-to-be. Women often feel vulnerable not valuable during pregnancy and early motherhood and we want this to change.
- When we see it, we believe it.
On May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile. As part of his training, he relentlessly visualized the achievement in order to create a sense of certainty in his mind and body. A few weeks later his record was beaten and a year or so later there were 3 more. Having seen Usain Bolt at the Olympics I know that when you combine focus, talent and strong self belief you can realise previously unfathomable outcomes. Women can rise to the top of the corporate world and be present loving mothers. Men can step back when they become fathers and enjoy valuable time supporting their partners and raising their child together. We can create a corporate world that is softer, more balanced and has a culture that values men and women equally. But we have to want it, see it and demonstrate more examples to show it’s possible for the majority.
