As I reluctantly add on another layer, I am slowly accepting that Summer is over and embracing Autumn.
British Summer Time (BST) will end on the final Sunday in October (clocks will go back an hour at 2am on Sunday, October 26, 2014) which is when I finally prepare for earlier nights and bring out my Autumnal essential oils.
I love seeing the leaves change colour and my super simple cooking starts to reflect the seasonal changes in the supermarket. Warming dishes featuring chilli and ginger start to pepper my week-night suppers and I find myself looking out for tasty new soup recipes for a quick and easy nourish. I made my first pumpkin soup yesterday!
Autumn inspires me to re invigorate refreshing but immune boosting citrus such as lemon and grapefruit whilst their warmer cousins mandarin and sweet orange gently hug and bring a blend together. Cardamon‘s soft warmth can help with nausea sometimes experienced in pregnancy and settle indigestion or hiccups but also gently lifts an cooler blend. Psychologically, cardamon is associated with soothing over-thinking and worry, especially when there is a degree of nervous exhaustion. It is thought to restore stability and re-ignite our desire for contentment, and when coupled with stimulating ginger, which promotes strength, self confidence and strong will, it can be a powerful combination.
Roll on October. I’m ready for you now.
