Women in Technology and Engineering
3M has become a signatory to a new Government initiative that is was formally launched last month. The Women in Technology and Engineering Compact invites companies to make specific pledges to boost female participation in this sector.
3M’s pledge in part builds on the company’s existing commitment to supporting the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects in schools and commits them to creating a UK and Ireland chapter of 3M’s global Women’s Leadership Network (WLN), designed to retain and develop female talent in the organisation.
If we talk openly about the challenges women face and work together, we can change the trajectory of women and create a better world for everyone.
Late 2013, realizing the competitive business advantages a diverse workforce can provide, 3M leaders kicked off a more focused and determined effort to accelerate the inclusion and advancement of women worldwide. 3M’s new approach tackles common barriers: preparing women to drive career advancement, changing the culture of the company, and creating opportunities for increased interaction with influential leaders. Key to 3M’s success is a vibrant new Women’s Leadership Forum to engage people everywhere in the opportunity, and ultimately make 3M the greatest place for women (and men) to work.
Dawn McGinley, Global Leader & Strategist, 3M Women’s Leadership Forum
