As Arianna Huffington (the woman I most want to meet right now) said in a recent interview with CNN Money “Meditation is “in” because it works. We are living through an incredible time, when modern science is validating a lot of ancient wisdom.”
Meditation isn’t all sitting on a carpet for hours, humming and chanting – unless you want it to be – who has the time or inclination for that? Not me. And probably not you, if you are a new mum with a newborn baby or still working through your pregnancy.
It’s just – in my opinion – listening to little soundbites of smart, positive messages and advice that can help you live each day more calmly and feel happier day by day, feels really good. The mind can listen to rubbish and negativity, be full of To-do lists and drama or it can pay more attention to words of positivity, upbeat-ness and joy.
When I mediate – ideally at the start of my day, sometimes at a more random time possibly in a coffee shop, on the tube or my current favourite, walking – my day definitely seems to goes better than when I don’t. Decisions are easier. I don’t react and respond by having a mini meltdown (we all have them). I feel better. Stronger in myself. It didn’t work for me brilliantly on my yoga training when we were “forced” to all sit in silence but now it’s my choice – I choose it more often than not.
Meditation 101. It’s simple to join in but hurry all the free sessions will be gone by tomorrow. 30+ world class experts and a lot of scientific back up makes me take a look. Just tune in to one or two that grab you or watch Ashley’s intro video so you can see if there is practice that fits your style and personality.
Let me know what you think.
