Dr Victoria Bourne speaks at Bumps and the Boardroom Live 2014
Victoria completed her undergraduate degree and PhD in psychology at the University of Sussex before completing a postdoctoral research fellow position in the Department of Mental Health at the University of Aberdeen, working on a project on cognitive ageing. She was then at University of Dundee for five years as a lecturer in psychology before moving to Royal Holloway, University of London, where she is a Senior Lecturer. Her research focuses on how we process emotional information from faces and how each hemisphere of the brain makes a different contribution to this process. She is particularly interested in how this varies between individuals and has looked at sources of individual differences such as sex, gender identity, handedness, hormonal exposure and changes through pregnancy and in new mothers.

My passion and interest in the hospital's full range of maternity services led me to become a member of Chelsea & Westminster's Maternity Services Liaison Committee (MSLC) and I held the position of Chair for around 2 years.
In late 2011 and through 2012 I was invited to be part of the original Management team for Mermaid Maternity and acted as an advisory Consultant. Life was great on many levels.
I had fallen head over heels in love and was living with an amazing man I adored and his teenage daughter who later joined us. I suddenly understood the complexities of when two becomes three. Juggling, the joys of step-parenting, not enough time for us and the art of compromise.
In early 2013 his accidental death and my own accident a month before stopped me in my tracks. It was my fifth bereavement in as many years and having lost my trusted business mentor and best friend just a few years before I stepped back from proactively focusing on my business until I felt ready to join the world again. It took me a good nine or ten months of transition and then some after that but the similarities between the nine months gestation of pregnancy and the first few months of new motherhood felt like no coincidence and I understood the process of transition and change like never before.
If your pregnancy journey is proving challenging, my additional studies in Improving Fertility Naturally with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), an understanding of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) and personal and professional experience of miscarriage will ensure a balanced and empathetic approach.
I have a certificate in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) from the Centre for Stress Management and studied and experienced high level Coaching and Mentoring from a number of business and relationship experts.
After birth, my personal home services and postnatal packages help you to continue making time for your wellbeing too, so both you and your baby thrive. As a Baby Reflex practitioner, I can offer an exciting concept of Reflexology which may enhance the natural loving bond between parent and child, giving parents the opportunity to learn special, gentle, techniques, further complemented by my skills as a qualified Developmental Baby Massage teacher having trained with leading international expert Peter Walker.
In October 2013, I successfully completed 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training in asana (postures or poses), pranayama (breathing techniques), anatomy and study of yogic texts with Frog Lotus Yoga and am qualified to teach Vinyasa Flow.
An additional 80 hours Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga Mama has allowed me to become a Registered Yoga Teacher for Pregnancy (RYTP) and teach Pre and Postnatal Yoga. As my personal practice develops I am creating a range of short and sweet exercises and meditations for the pregnant and postnatal mind and body that I feel really complement my therapies beautifully.
