Put your Mask on First (and other good advice for Mums)
Yesterday I woke up feeling like I could just go back to bed! I felt soooo tired. I loved my event last week and am excited about the buzz it is generating and the plans for taking the movement forward but just wanted to lie on the couch, watch the first day of Wimbledon and not speak!
So for a part of the afternoon I did! Yes, I know there are some benefits to being a MIW (Mum-in-waiting).
I love this short little video from Lisa Nichols. It’s simple but makes perfect sense.
Lisa is talking about a group of people who pulled an “all nighter” together as part of a project to help a community but I think there are many parallels when you are new mum or growing your baby – that’s a pretty sizeable and worthy project in my book!
Whenever I am feeling a little down or depleted, I remind myself of this premise and it always serves to inspire and uplift.
As a New Mum or Mum-to-be the demand to constantly “give” to your work before you leave and your baby once it arrives can leave you feeling empty and lacking. It’s very hard to keep giving happily when you feel depleted and as we are advised on every pre-flight safety demonstration advises secure your mask on first, then assist others.
To avoid this, make Serving from Your Overflow your mantra.
Take action – however small it may seem – and notice the difference.
Simple pleasures to replenish and “fill up your cup” are everywhere but being fully connected to your needs is the first step and then acknowledging and acting on them the second.
What are you going to do today to look after and nourish you pre or post pregnancy?
Let me know.
