Traci Alford : Shell plc Head of Fuels Brand Strategy
Traci Alford works for Shell, based in Singapore as the Head of Fuels Brand Strategy, overseeing the fuels portfolio globally, with focus on the growth markets in the East. She is mum to her daughter Rose, two and step-mum to 4 children between the ages of 19 and 12.
Traci started her career at Cadbury Schweppes working on some of the world’s favourite brands, including Schweppes, Dr Pepper, Seven Up, as well as Cadbury, Trident and Halls brands. From Brand Management, Key account management on Wal-Mart through to Strategy Director EMEA and Global Business Development Director Traci has lived in a number of cities across the world including Melbourne, Osaka, Dallas, Paris, London and worked across all continents, having local, regional and global responsibilities.
Traci joined Shell in April 2010 as GM of Consumer Marketing in the Lubricants division. Her key motivation included working with great brands, smart people and in a sector that impacts on everyone, everyday.
It was March 2012 in London that our paths crossed. Traci was almost 8 months pregnant, still very busy working but her maternity leave was imminent. We had a month’s plan to help her de-compress, transition out of the workplace and into motherhood.
Rose had other ideas. We managed one or two sessions before her early arrival, just over 5 weeks before her due date.
In April 2013, Traci took up a new role as Head of Fuels Brand Strategy, based in Singapore, overseeing the fuels portfolio globally, with focus on the growth markets in the East.
Being a mother the desire and ability to travel to the west coast of the US became less practical. Her new role has less focus here and more on the Far East which is also closer to her original home in Australia.
Motherhood has provided me with new opportunities and some challenges but all worthwhile
Traci says: Moving around the world has not only given me the ability to pack light but has also given me some amazing travel experiences. While unlikely to be seen back-packing or jumping out of an aeroplane, I am very happy to holiday with my husband Martin and children, anywhere that is warm, close to fantastic food and wine, and great art.
Traci will be sharing her personal insights of being part of a very large organisation and a committed career woman on the experiences and journey from transitioning through pregnancy, the unexpected early arrival of her daughter and the changes and current integration of being a mother and a senior manager.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Please note: due to scheduling my conversation with Joanna Martin’s will be on Friday 20 June at 12pm BST/ 9pm AEST
