I loved the Invictus Games.
All credit to HRH Prince Harry and Co for pulling together an amazing event which was hugely inspirational on so many levels and so quickly.
It just shows what can be done when there is commitment, conviction and courage.
These were my top 3 takeaways.
1. Whatever life throws at you, you have two choices. Let it get you down or let it make you stronger. We were born to achieve and succeed. There is great joy in powering up your potential.
2. Making it alone is lonely. Sharing is where the real juice is. The team spirit, crowd support and back stories of the personal journeys and everyone involved to make it to the start line were hugely uplifting. “I AM” the Invictus motto, is something I love and before my moon bath last week we all chanted the mantra “I AM, I CAN”. I’m not a great team player (I like to take the lead) but I know my positive mental attitude and inner beliefs only get me so far. At some stage I have to trust others, trust the Universe, ask for support and be willing to receive it! And then I can enjoy sharing the success with all concerned.
3. A diverse world is a greater world. It’s easy to get caught up in admiring symmetry but choosing employees who have different backgrounds and skill sets can be what takes your company to greatness. I can’t imagine a soldier sweating the small stuff but their determination and “can do” attitude could breathe new life into old ways of thinking and make all the difference. Having experienced mid-life career change (through choice, not injury) I know it has taken a long time for my credibility and diverse skill set to be seriously valued. Let’s ensure these Games Men and Women are suitable recognised and rewarded from now on.
Thank you everyone involved for an inspiring and uplifting few days.
